Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson left one Reds fan stunned when he appeared on a special video call.

David Kerruish, who is a season ticket holder in the Main Stand, was seen wiping his tears away after he was surprised by the skipper live on video.

The special call, arranged by NIVEA MEN, took place after David’s sister Chris and wife Angela had shared his heartbreaking story with the club.

At the start of the emotional clip, which was posted on social media on Friday morning, Henderson explained that he was meant to meet David in person but with the current circumstances he was unable to do so which is why a video meeting was instead arranged.

“He’s just a genuinely lovely guy,” Chris said.

“He’s got a heart of gold. A great dad, yeah, he’s just a lovely guy. ”

When Henderson asked if he was a big Liverpool fan she added: “My dad and Dave have had a season ticket in the Main Stand since forever really, most of our David’s life anyway. Everything revolves the fixture list – including his wedding! ”

Chris then revealed why they approached the club and NIVEA on behalf of David.

She said: “It’s been horrendous, absolutely awful.

“My mum, bless her, was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She died exactly a month later and then on 10th of November which was the day we battered [Manchester] City, I was ringing my dad and he wasn’t answering which was out of character.

“And when I went round he had fallen down the stairs and broken his neck. That was five weeks to the day after losing my mum. Our Dave has taken it particularly badly because him and my dad were best mates. ”

“Well, I’m so sorry to hear that,” Henderson replied. “There’s nothing I can say but hopefully we can try and cheer him up today with this phone call.”

David is then called into speak with his sister on the video call when he is surprised by Henderson.

Completely stunned he has to wipe tears from his eyes. The midfielder explained that he was meant to meet him in person but in the current circumstances was unable to. Henderson then asked: “How are you coping anyway?”

David replied in shock: “Yeah, not bad thanks, Jordan. It is just at the match we haven’t been at the match for a few weeks obviously but at the match that is when I miss him most because we sat together for so long.

“The day before he died I shook hands with him and said‘ See you tomorrow when I pick you up for City ’. I said ‘It is going to be this year, it is going to be this year’. He’d be like ‘I don’t know City are probably still the team’.

“Ever since that day we’ve flown. As made up as I am I sometimes think I wish my dad could see this. ”

He continued: “All my family tried to get me a ticket to Madrid and I managed to get a ticket the week before and I gave it to my dad, and then obviously with what’s happened it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.

“Not a day goes by. It’s been hard but football gives you that release and when we sing You’ll Never Walk Alone I look to my right and I can kind of feel my dad with me but no-one can explain how you are going to feel until it happens. ”

The skipper responded: “I am really sorry to hear that but just try and stay as positive as you can. I know at the minute it is so difficult in the times that we are in. But hopefully when we get back on the pitch we can put a smile on your face. ”

David said: “You’ve already put a smile on my face. I can’t believe this. This is mad. These things don’t happen to me. “

Henderson then surprised David and his family with the news that it had been arranged for him and his family to go to Melwood and meet all of the players. As well as this the global skincare brand have also paid for two season tickets for next season.
