Jonathan David scored the goal that beat PSG on Saturday. It seems Liverpool were right about their potential.
Lille now have a three-point lead over Paris Saint-Germain at the top of Ligue 1. They are having a wonderful season, beyond all expectations.
So why the link to Liverpool, here? Well, it was Jonathan David who sank PSG. The Reds were supposedly watching him this summer.
And it seems that they were right in that: he is a player with great potential.

The Liverpool Echo claimed in October that the Reds had three advanced goals last summer. Diogo Jota, Ismaila Sarr and David were on the shortlist, with Liverpool opting for Jota.

Instead, David signed for Lille, which cost the French team around £ 27 million. However, things started very slowly.
But things have improved. As we recently wrote, David is performing at elite levels in certain areas, areas that Liverpool will like.
His pressure is outstanding, as is his movement. Now he is also scoring goals. His forward in the 1-0 win over PSG was David’s tenth of the campaign.
But it was more than that. David demonstrated the ability to hit a massive game against a superior team, something he hadn’t quite done yet.
David’s goal saw him drift to the penalty spot for a cut, compose himself with his first touch and shoot home. It was a goal that exuded confidence, a great look for a 21-year-old.
Athletic’s James Pearce hinted that Liverpool might still be in David’s market. He mentioned the forward when discussing goals on the Ask Ornstein podcast.
And we would not be surprised. Liverpool seem to have got this right and David is a player with great potential.
It would probably cost them quite a bit if they came back, but their form this season is sure to tempt them.
