New Delhi, March 20

Social media platforms WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram suffered a major outage on Friday night, but services resumed after a while.

Many WhatsApp users reported that they were unable to send and receive messages, while Instagram was also down during the period. Independent monitoring portal Downdetector showed an increase in outage reported by WhatsApp and Instagram users.

The Facebook-owned platforms later said the “glitch” had been resolved.

“A technical problem caused people to have problems accessing some Facebook services. We solved this problem for everyone and we apologize for any inconvenience,” said a Facebook spokesperson.

“Thanks for your patience, it was a long 45 minutes, but we are back!” WhatsApp posted on Twitter.

“Some people had problems with their Instagram accounts before, but now we are back. The problem has been fixed and we regret the problem,” Instagram tweeted, along with a GIF. – PTI
