How to buy PS5: essential tips
Multiple sources have reported an Amazon hack that improves your chances of getting a PS5. We tried this trick four times and each time we managed to get a next-gen console in our cart. (We tested it with an Xbox Series X, but there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work with a PS5.) Other tips to follow include:
Get prepared– Make sure you have all the correct payment card details and two-factor authentication available and on hand when you find a PS5 ready to buy. Units can go so fast that if you’re playing trying to find your credit card, you could miss out on securing a PS5 order.
Select a retailer: As you can see from our list above, there are a lot of retailers to choose from, which can actually complicate the whole PS5 buying process a bit. We suggest that you select a couple of major retailers like Walmart and Amazon, and keep an eye on their PS5 landing pages.
Sign up for stock alerts: Many retailers offer to notify you when they have PS5 refills. We suggest that you sign up for those services for the retailers that offer them.
Find the right product page: It may seem obvious, but make sure you are on the actual purchase page for the PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition. If you’re on a landing page, you might miss the moment when new actions arrive.
Login to retailers: Make sure to log into any retailer you already have an account with. This will make things a lot faster when buying a PS5 if you see one on sale. And speed is essential today.
Keep refreshing yourself and don’t give up: It can be a bit demoralizing trying to find PS5 restocking when everything seems sold out. But periodically update the product pages to see what appears; you may be lucky. And also check back here for PS5 stock updates.
You can also get used to checking out Slickdeals, the online collection of deals that range from home appliances to game consoles like the PS5. The website has some specific forum threads for the entire PS5 that users keep updating. If you’re following the thread, please skip to the last page and keep updating to stay up-to-date with the latest news.
It’s also a good idea to check out some of the subscription-based wholesale retailers like Sam’s Club, BJ’s Wholesale Club, and Costco. You need a paid membership to shop at these retailers, but that means reduced competition to snag a unit there. You may have to pay more for a package, but these locations are worth checking out either way. There are currently no online listings for these retailers to check, but it may be worth heading to each physical store to try your luck right now.
It has been quite a difficult process during this generation of consoles to block any kind of next-gen purchase. But as we get closer to the holidays, chances are there will be additional PS5s available for purchase at some point, as Sony catches up with those looking to buy PS5s.

Where to buy PS5: Avoid PS5 resellers
Unfortunately, one of the main reasons for the PS5 console shortage is due to resellers. These opportunistic folks have been using bots to scan retailers for PS5 stock when available and buy as many consoles as they can in one go.
Once they have the highly desired console, they will sell it at exorbitant prices, often for thousands of dollars. Business Insider reported that a reseller managed to get hold of 200 PS5 consoles and managed to sell them for more than $ 40,000.
While this is not illegal, it is not exactly the most morally sound thing to do. But at least it’s not as bad as some folks who have been pretending to sell PS5 consoles on eBay simply by posting photos of the console and scamming people into bidding on them when there wasn’t a PS5 on sale.
It may seem absurd to buy a PS5 for over $ 1,000, especially since its launch game lineup isn’t particularly deep. But with the coronavirus pandemic seeing more people stay home, some PlayStation fans are clearly desperate to get their hands on a new console to keep them entertained.
We recommend that you avoid buying from these resellers, fake or otherwise. At $ 499, the PS5 is still quite an expensive console and it doesn’t currently have a huge library of games. So if you can wait until the end of this year, you probably have a lot more PS5 games to choose from and Sony should have more consoles available.
