Deputy Prime Minister calls on new ambassadors to fight disinformation through digital diplomacy –

Addis Ababa, March 12, 2021 (Walta) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen, who has chaired the presentations of the newly appointed ambassadors’ 100-day plans, called for the proper use of digital diplomacy to prevent disinformation campaigns targeting Ethiopia.

Demeke exchanged views with the newly appointed Ethiopian ambassadors in Australia, Ghana, Italy, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, South Sudan and Senegal.

On the occasion, the Ambassadors presented their 100-day plan that they designed to implement upon assuming their duties in their respective missions.

The plan focused primarily on political, economic and civic diplomatic activities, among others.

The Deputy Prime Minister called on the Ambassadors to intensify the bilateral and multilateral relations between Ethiopia and the areas to which they are assigned.

Ambassadors should also pay due attention to protecting the rights, interests and security of the Ethiopian diaspora and strengthening people-to-people commitments, he added.

Given the current disinformation and disinformation campaigns orchestrated against Ethiopia’s interests, Demeke said that the Ambassador should properly use digital diplomacy tools to help the world understand the concrete reality of the country.

Also present at the meeting, the Minister of State, HE Ambassador Redwan Hussein stressed that Ambassadors must create close contact with high-level institutions and government agencies to register a better performance in their functions, according to the MoFAoE.
