Guyana received 80,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines manufactured in India on Sunday under the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ program.
“The Prime Minister of Guyana, Mark Phillips, and the Indian High Commissioner in Guyana, Dr. KJ Srinivasa, receive an Indian gift of 80,000 doses of MadeInIndia COVISHIELD vaccines, a testament to the friendly hand of India VaccineMaitri” India wrote in Guyana in a tweet.
In a tweet, Foreign Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar also reported that Guyana has received Made in India vaccines.
In a tweet, Jaishankar wrote: “Kinship across oceans. Guyana receives Made in India vaccines.”
The cumulative count of Covid-19 cases in Guyana has reached 8,772. Up to 200 people have lost their lives due to the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University.
India, a global pharmacy, is at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19 and is becoming a key supplier of vaccines to more than 70 countries on a commercial and humanitarian basis.
Under the Vaccine Maitri initiative, India has been providing coronavirus vaccines to its neighboring countries.
