This story contains spoilers for “WandaVision” episode 9.
It was good while it lasted.
The ninth and final episode of “WandaVision”, appropriately titled “The Series Finale,” brought the story of the magical domestic life of Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) together to an end, but not before a climactic battle. which involved several powerful beings and a heavily armed government organization.
It was a clash the original Disney + series had been building toward for weeks after nosy neighbor Agnes was revealed to be haunted intruder Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and the true motivations of SWORD director Hayward (Josh Stamberg). became clear.
But in true Marvel Cinematic Universe fashion, the end was just the beginning. The finale of “WandaVision” features two post-credits scenes that establish what’s next for a pair of the show’s heroes.
Mid-credits scene: Monica Rambeau
As the aftermath of the Westview confrontation unfolds, SWORD captain Monica Rambeau is called to a theater where a woman, who reveals herself to be Skrull, delivers a message from an old friend of her mother. And this friend wants to meet Monica in space.
The Skrulls are the shapeshifting alien race that played a key role in “Captain Marvel,” the 2019 film that introduced young Monica and her mother, Maria Rambeau, to the MCU. A couple of them were also seen in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” (2019), and are expected to be a central part in Marvel’s upcoming “Secret Invasion” series.
A post-credits scene in “Far From Home” reveals that Nick Fury, who also appeared in “Captain Marvel,” was set up on a space station that fans at the time assumed was an indication that SWORD would eventually make its debut. in MCU. . Could Fury be this “old friend”?
It has already been confirmed that Monica will be reuniting with Carol Danvers in the upcoming “Captain Marvel 2” so it’s only a matter of time before we know more about this reunion and the future of the newly super powerful Monica.
Post-credits scene: Wanda, the scarlet witch
After taking down the hex and saying goodbye to Vision and his twins, Wanda settled in an isolated cabin in the mountains. But once again, not everything is what it seems.
At the beginning of the episode, Agatha tells Wanda “there is an entire chapter dedicated to [the Scarlet Witch] in the Darkhold “and that his” power exceeds that of the Supreme Sorcerer. “
Now Wanda, who is determined to understand its power, has seized “the book of the damned” to do some homework.
In the comics, Darkhold is an old book of powerful dark magic generally associated with Chthon, an old god who is also known to be the source of Chaos Magic. The book has previously appeared on Marvel television shows, including “Agents of SHIELD” and “Runaways.”
And it seems like Wanda’s studies are paying off, because there are two of her in the booth.
In the post-credits scene, a Wanda, in full Scarlet Witch outfit, is shown reading the Darkhold (while displaying magical power) when she hears the voices of her twin sons calling out for help.
Billy and Tommy were last seen in the episode being tucked in by Wanda and Vision before the alternate reality within Westview dissolved for good. Because Vision and the twins were created by Wanda’s magic, they couldn’t exist outside of the hex.
Viewers watch Vision disappear as the pair share one last moment, but what happens to Billy and Tommy is not shown.
With Wanda set to appear in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” could this mean that Billy and Tommy are also returning?
Billy and Tommy’s comic book counterparts are members of a next-generation superhero team known as the Young Avengers. Other team members include Kate Bishop (who will be featured in the “Hawkeye” series), Cassie Lang (who has already appeared in the “Ant-Man” movies and will return in the upcoming “Ant-Man and the Wasp”: Quantumania “) And America Chavez, a dimension jump hero who will debut in the sequel to” Doctor Strange. “
The only certain thing is that not even Doctor Strange, the Supreme Sorcerer himself, will be a match for Wanda if the fate of her children is at stake.
What about the other Vision?
While Wanda’s Vision is gone, the Vision rebuilt with SWORD is still somewhere, now with access to her previous memories. While his future is less clear than that of the other characters who have already been announced as part of the upcoming films, we already know one thing: in the MCU, anyone can return when they least expect it.
