Microsoft Edge is getting a new built-in tool that will help users solve complex math problems on a web page. As Reddit user Leopeva64-2 highlighted, the “Maths Solver” feature is now being implemented to select Insiders running Canary channel builds, and is part of a Controlled Functions Implementation (CFR).
This powerful tool is apparently powered by the Microsoft Maths solver app and Bing search, which help users with various math problems, including trigonometry, algebra, arithmetic, statistics, calculus, and more.
Currently, there are two ways to use this feature in the browser. First, users can manually type an equation with the keyboard in the text box. Alternatively, they can also use the selection tool to select a formula or equation available on a web page. Regardless of the method, Math Solver will use OCR to read the problem and then provide a suitable solution to users.
If you are a Microsoft Edge Canary Insider, you should be able to access the new Maths Solver tool by heading to Settings >> Appearance and then clicking the “Show Math Solver” option. If you choose to enable it, the browser will add a dedicated button on the toolbar.
The new Edge already allows users to sort items within collections, but the company is now testing another update to make it easier for users to organize their collections. In fact, the latest build of Canary 90.0.815.0 has added a new option to sort them by name, creation date, and recent use.
Of course, both features are still being worked on, and this could be a very early implementation.
