Microsoft has announced that its Microsoft Translator service now supports nine additional languages for text translation. The latest additions are Albanian, Myanmar, Azerbaijani, Amharic, Nepalese, Khmer, Tigrinya, Lao and Armenian.
“This announcement comes on the heels of International Mother Language Day, which is celebrated annually on February 21 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and the multilingualism, ”the company noted on the Microsoft Translator Blog.
The company noted that the nine new text translation languages are currently available in all Translator applications and other products, including Microsoft Office and Bing Translator, as well as Azure Cognitive Services Speech for developers. The addition of new languages brings the total number of languages supported by Microsoft Translator to 83.
It is important to note that the latest additions are currently spoken by around 170 million people around the world. With the recent announcement, Microsoft says that the translation tool will allow users to interact effectively with people residing in different regions of the world.
