Future Samsung smartwatch rumored to use Android, not Tizen

Samsung has been using its Tizen platform in smartwatches since the Gear 2 line of 2014, but it could return to its Android ‘roots’ in the near future. Both Sammobile and known leaker Ice universe claims that Samsung is making a smartwatch running Android (possibly Wear OS) instead of its usual platform. It would be the first time Samsung has used Android on the wrist since the first products like the Galaxy Gear and Gear Live.

It is not sure what this wristband will look like or if this would represent a total change to Android. GalaxyClub You recently discovered two model numbers that hint that the next Samsung watches will come in two sizes, regardless of what software they use.

There are no guarantees that Samsung will make the leap. However, it could be a logical move. While Tizen-based smartwatches like the Galaxy Watch 3 have key apps like Spotify and are generally well regarded, there is no question that they lack the ties of the Wear OS Android ecosystem. Samsung could have decided that the broader compatibility was worth any trade-offs. It would certainly help Google, which has not had much success on wearable devices compared to Apple or Samsung.

That said, it could be a contentious change. Samsung has its smartwatch fanatics in part through a unique control scheme and great battery life – we characterize the latest watch as the best non-Apple design. Would you lose that enthusiasm if you went with Wear OS or another version of Android? Wear OS devices haven’t delivered much excitement, after all. We wouldn’t rule out a custom version of Android that retains the Samsung advantages, but that’s far from guaranteed.
