But it’s hard to make that argument when the PS5 has been out of stock for three months at those prices, and the only real market for the console typically sees prices two to three times higher.
Internet resellers have been acquiring Sony’s next-generation console using bots that can complete transactions much faster than any human being. Some retailers have started cracking down on these reseller botsbut they are still a threat and have prevented many people from getting consoles at launch and during subsequent restocks from retailers. Regardless, these consoles are resold at a very high price. Right now on EbayFor example, you can find the PS5 with one or two accessories that sell for as little as $ 650 or as much as $ 1,500.
We’ve been giving the same advice for months: no console, not even the PS5, is worth spending hundreds on retail sales. That’s especially true with so little content available specifically optimized for the PS5. Wen suggests that you keep playing with your PS4 for a few more months until a significant amount of inventory hits retailers later this year.
Meanwhile, PS5 restockings do, indeed, happen, and gamers with quick reaction times have managed to snag a console. To be clear, we recommend waiting for inventory to show up in retail. But if you need a PS5 right now, we haven’t seen one on eBay for less than $ 650. The median price on eBay appears to be around $ 800.
If you’ve decided that you’re willing to pay hundreds above the list price to get a console now, you might want to check out StockX. Right now, it seems like $ 700 is the least you can afford for a PS5, and prices go up substantially.
