February 11, 2021 (Walta) The Sudanese government declared a curfew in three states in light of widespread popular protests against harsh living conditions and lack of security in some areas.
The governor of North Kordofan declared a state of emergency in his region, with a 12-hour curfew from 6pm, “to preserve the lives of citizens and secure property,” and closed schools. until February 14, following the escalation of violence and riots, reported the Sudanese newspaper Al-Joumhouria.
The newspaper confirmed that angry protesters did not abide by the curfew imposed in three states from 6 pm to 7 am and that altercations with security services continue.
For the past three days, Sudan has been experiencing widespread popular unrest, especially in the city of El-Fashir, after a conflict broke out between camel herders and locals, in addition to difficult economic and social conditions that will not be easily rectified by the new government of Abdalla Hamdok due to a serious lack of means and resources.
