Little Nightmares 2 is on the horizon, which is why Bandai Namco is giving away the original on PC all week long via their website to keep the hype train moving.
In anticipation of the second game in the Little nightmares series, publisher Bandai Namco is giving players the original for free on Steam along with the launch of linked products and a demo for the sequel. The original Little nightmares was the breakout game for developer Tarsier Studios, released in 2017 on console and PC to high critical acclaim. While it was noted as a short game, what was available to play showed a graphically stunning world full of flair. That great introduction paid off, as the franchise will be translated to television with a Henry Selick-directed adaptation in the works.

This attention around the game made it an easy decision to start with a sequel, and that’s just what Bandai Namco and Tarsier Studios have done. Little Nightmares 2 was announced at Gamescom 2019 and will arrive on consoles and PC on February 11, 2021. A port optimized for Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5 will arrive later in the year. Instead of the Six from the first game, players will take control of Mono, a boy who uses a paper bag as a mask. Six will join the adventure as a computer-controlled assistant, and the duo will face off against the villains that were originally hinted at in the first game’s DLC.
For those who have never experienced the first game, Bandai namco is eager to help you promote the sequel with a free online giveaway. Players only need to register on the game’s official website to receive a Steam key via email at some point in the future. Players have until January 17 to accept the publisher’s offer, but the first day’s supply of keys ran out early in the day, so it can be a rush to grab as the days go by.
Those who play through the giveaway will only get the base version and will have to purchase the three separate DLC packs to get the full experience. Meanwhile, players who have already completed the first adventure can get a newly released demo for the sequel on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The demo covers the Wilderness portion of the game and shows the gameplay dynamics between the new playable character and the returning NPC protagonist. Bandai Namco has also released a product line just in time for the imminent release of the sequel.
Although its indie nature keeps it a bit off the radar, the Little nightmares The franchise is a clear example of a great studio that understands trends and tries to take advantage of them. The horror game takes place in the same setting as something like Five nights at Freddy’s and Bendy and the ink machine, and that level of awareness isn’t something you’d expect from a major publisher as soon as a trend takes off. With the recent acquisition of developer Tarsier Studios by the Embracer Group, Bandai Namco may need to find a new way to keep the game going, but that will likely hinge on the success of the sequel next month.
