Addis Ababa, January 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Ethiopia is pushing for health screening measures at airports to prevent the transmission of new strains of Covid-19, an Ethiopian official said.
Sahrela Abdullahi, Minister of State for Ethiopia’s Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), said on Tuesday that new health screening measures to be applied mainly to travelers from foreign destinations are aimed at preventing the transmission of new strains of Covid. -19, the Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday. .
Abdullahi said that Ethiopia in particular is working to prevent the transmission of new strains of Covid-19 recently discovered in the UK, South Africa and Nigeria, the state-run Ethiopia News Agency (ENA) reported.
“In addition to health control measures at airports, the FMoH is strengthening control at border points with neighboring countries as part of the measures to prevent the transmission of the new Covid-19 strains to the country,” said Abdullahi.
Abdullahi also called on the public to strengthen personal health measures that are declining, such as wearing face masks, practicing physical distancing and washing hands regularly to avoid contracting the disease.
Ethiopia has reported 128,616 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 2,003 COVID-19-related cases as of Tuesday morning.
Ethiopia is the fifth country most affected by Covid-19 on the African continent, only surpassed by South Africa, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia.
