Drones have always been a huge hit at the annual CES show.

The ultimate drone with a buzz: Sony’s Airpeak drone, promising to be an eye in the sky for filmmakers.

Sony didn’t offer much information about the drone, but it did show a video, equipped with a Sony Alpha 7S III camera, tracking the electronics company’s high-tech Vision-S electric vehicle under development from above. Stunning images of the snowy and forested Austrian mountain landscape were captured.

The Airpeak, says Sony, is the smallest class of drones that such a camera can carry.

“Airpeak enables video creators to explore new frontiers for visual expression. With Sony’s Alpha camera, dynamic and stable remote shooting is possible,” said Kenichiro Yoshida, president, president and CEO of Sony Corp. “The creators they have unlimited potential to capture stunning images from above. Airpeak transforms the skies into an infinite creative playground. “

Sony announced its Airpeak drone project in November 2020 and says it will be available in spring 2021.

More drones are expected to be in the air after the Federal Aviation Administration passed rules two weeks ago that small drones must fly over people and at night.

The Vision-S vehicle, which debuted at CES last year and has sensors that could be used for autonomous driving functions, is currently being tested on public roads, Yoshida said.
