Nvidia has started teasing the launch of the RTX 3000 series for laptops. The GPU maker will hold a virtual press event for CES tomorrow and is expected to unveil the mobile versions of the RTX 3000 series GPUs. A new teaser video includes a very clear hint of a laptop, along with a few others. announcements that Nvidia is likely to make.
Tom’s Guide notes that the teaser includes four images: a gaming laptop, the Outriders game, a GeForce RTX logo and resizable BAR (Base Address Register). The gaming laptop hints at RTX 3000 mobile GPUs, but the RTX logo is also likely to tease more desktop GPUs. Rumors have suggested that Nvidia is ready to introduce an RTX 3060 GPU that will be priced lower than Nvidia’s latest RTX 3060 Ti card.
The resizable BAR support looks like a hint for an upcoming driver update for Nvidia’s RTX cards. Like AMD’s smart access memory, Nvidia can boost performance between a CPU and a GPU to improve frame rates. Motherboard manufacturers will need to provide BIOS updates to enable this for Intel and AMD CPUs, but the Nvidia trailer suggests that it is ready to implement the necessary driver support as well.
Nvidia will be holding its CES press event at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET on January 12, and we will cover all announcements as they happen.
