Ethiopian troops have killed senior officials from the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in one operation, according to an announcement Thursday night.

Among the dead are TPLF spokesman Sekoture Getachew and Daniel Assefa, former director of the Tigray Finance Office.

Zeray Asgedom, the former head of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority, and Abebe Asgedom were also killed during the operation.

In a statement, the head of the defense force deployment department, Gen. Tesfaye Aylew, said that nine other TPLF leaders were also arrested.

They are Kidusan Nega, former spokesperson for the region, Ambassador Abadi Zemu, former Ethiopian Ambassador to Sudan, Solomon Kidane, Teklewayini Assefa, Gebremedhin Tewolde, Woldegiorgis Desta, Tewodros Hagos and Mihret Teklay.

By November, the government had issued arrest warrants for more than 60 senior TPLF leaders.

According to the BBC, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced in November the end of a military offensive in Tigray state after its regional capital, Mekelle, fell to the federal army.
