Every Mac computer comes preloaded with dozens of different applications and services. One of them is Launchpad, a menu that works as an easy-to-use folder for all your other applications. As soon as you install an application, you must add it to the Launchpad.
This also works the other way around. Removing an application from your computer will remove it from Launchpad, and removing an application from Launchpad will remove it from your computer completely.
There are two ways to remove apps from Launchpad. Which path you choose will depend on how you downloaded that app in the first place: from the App Store or from the internet.
Just keep in mind that you can’t remove pre-installed apps from the Launchpad as you can’t remove them from your computer.
How to remove apps from the Launchpad App Store
This first category is for applications that you specifically installed through the App Store on your Mac.
1. Open Launchpad. Its icon is gray, with the black silhouette of a rocket. If you can’t find it, try searching for it.
2. Once you’ve found the app you want to remove, click and hold the app until the apps start to move. If you downloaded an application from the App Store, a small “X” icon will appear in the upper left corner of the application.
3. Click the “X” icon for the application you want to remove. Just remember that this will remove it from both Launchpad and your computer.
If the application you want to remove does not display an “X” icon, it means that you downloaded it through an Internet browser. If that’s the case, there is another way to remove it.
How to remove Internet applications from Launchpad
This method can also be used to remove apps from the App Store. as above. But this is the only way to remove applications that come from the Internet.
1. Click on the Finder icon, the square smiley face at the far left of your Dock by default. You can also open the Finder by opening any folder.
2. In the open Finder window, click “Applications” on the left.
3. Click on the application you want to remove and drag it to the Trash icon on the far right of your Dock; Alternatively, right-click on the application icon and select “Move to Trash.”
The application will be removed from your computer – and Launchpad – immediately.
