According to the display maker, the new OLED panels have a 40 percent transparency rate. This is much higher than the 10 percent transparency rate, which was observed in LCD panels (liquid crystal displays), according to TheElec report. The South Korean tech giant stated that it would showcase the new display technology in three exhibition zones, revealing the implications of the panels in different settings. This included a smart home product, subway window use, and even restaurants. The company has previously shown interest in its wide variety of applications, especially in the automotive and transportation industry.

In the smart home zone, the transparent OLED screen can be viewed in combination with the bed and will display useful information to users such as weather updates or entertainment with TV shows and movies. The frame is housed in the bed frame and can also be detached from the bed and placed elsewhere in the house. In the metropolitan area, LG Display’s transparent OLED panels replace traditional glass panels on the train.

These panels will be able to display information to users, such as the next stops or the duration of the trip, while offering a view of the outside world. The third and last area is the restaurant area. In this area, the transparent panels are used as a request between the customers and the cooks, allowing people to see the menu and also the chefs who are preparing their food. LG Display stated that these online exhibitions will be open and available to everyone.
