We know a lot about what we are getting with Galaxy S21, which is believed to make its debut later this month. But lately, it seems like we’re hearing more about what no comes with the next flagship from Samsung.
Last week, reports seemed to confirm the rumor that the Galaxy S21 will ship without charger in some parts of the world, following Apple’s lead with the launch of the iPhone 12. Now it seems that the Galaxy S21 will have something else in common with Apple phones: apparently, there is no microSD slot to expand storage on the next phone from Samsung.
That tidbit comes from phone leaker Roland Quandt, who has a solid history of details on Samsung phones. Quandt took to Twitter with a simple message: a “memory card reader” is not included in the spec sheet of the Galaxy S21. A later tweet suggested that would be true for all three Galaxy S21 models, even the pricey Galaxy S21 Ultra.
The S21 spec sheets say: memory card reader: “No” However, some markets may have a charger in the box, while others do not.December 31, 2020
If the microSD slot is really missing, it looks like the next phone will ditch one of the last bastions of classic smartphone design, with the headphone jacks. Still, it is not a surprise. There was no such slot on all the manufacturer’s flagships in 2015, and some Galaxy Note models like the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 20 I have also lost the function.
There’s some potential good news from Quandt, who also points out that some markets may receive chargers in the Galaxy S21 box. However, that won’t include the UK, according to other leakers. Nothing is official until Samsung introduces the phone.
And that could happen very soon. Rumors point to a January 14 launch event for Galaxy S21, with the dispatch of the phone before the end of January. We expect three models: a standard Galaxy S21, a Galaxy S21 Plus, and a Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung has started allowing potential buyers reserve a place in line to reserve the “next Galaxy” device.
