Real Madrid have three points in their first game of the new year with a 2-0 victory over Celta de Vigo.
Zinedine Zidane’s team quickly recovered from the drop in points against Elche and came out with the intention of jeopardizing Celta’s recent form.
See the player ratings below.
Thibaut Courtois – 7.5: Lucky not to have been attacked by Aspas early in the game. He hadn’t had much to do since then. Solid night and win another clean sheet.
Dani Carvajal – 7: A few inches from making it 2-0 on his volley, but he couldn’t fall. He finished with one shot, two dribbles and one tackle. Suppressed after 85 minutes, but won a yellow in the process that sees him miss the away game against Osasuna.
Nacho— 8: He let Aspas slip away in the opening minutes, but he redeemed himself by clearing the chip attempt. He accosted Aspas who unfortunately forced him to leave. Much like Ramos tonight and he came in in the dying moments to keep a clean sheet. He ended with an aerial victory, three tackles and 93% completions.
Raphael Varane – 7.5: Some badly cut passes and a bit rushed at times, but he grew up in the game and handled his back well with Nacho. It ended with an antenna won.
Ferland Mendy – 7.5: Back in the lineup on Marcelo. Bad goal attempts and he didn’t get too involved up high, but he keeps his winning streak alive in La Liga. He finished with two shots, a dribble, an aerial win and two tackles.
Casemiro – 7.5: A couple of gifts in the first 20 minutes and I did a few races to try to advance. He grew up in the game over time. He finished with two win antennas and four tackles.
Luka Modric – 8: Great pass to start the second goal. He was all over the field tonight and read the career of his teammates very well. He finished with a shot, a dribble, a tackle and 93% completions. Suppressed after 85 minutes.
Toni Kroos— 8: Another classic performance from Kroos. He stepped back to aid defense. He played a beautiful ball to start Benzema. He finished with one shot, 94% completions, two wins, one tackle and two key passes. Suppressed after 85 minutes.
Lucas Vazquez – 9: The first player to score this year with his header in the sixth minute. He later returned the favor and assisted Asensio. Tonight he reached full speed and passed to the right back when Carvajal left (sometimes he also helped in the defense beforehand). He finished with one shot, four earned antennas and one tackle and three key passes.
Karim Benzema – 8: He was calm in the first half but tried to hit the target in the second. Good races to boost Real’s attack. He fired a wide shot and dodged another opportunity over the bar. He finished with two shots, a dribble, an aerial won, a tackle and a key pass. Suppressed in discount time.
Marco Asensio – 8.5: Another performance that increases confidence. Great career and determination to place Vázquez on the first goal. He seemed eager to catch the ball and find his teammates in the area. He got many fouls. He scored the second of the night and surely was not going to miss the opportunity. He finished with a shot, a dribble and a key pass. Uploaded at minute 75.
Substitutes:
Eden Hazard – 6.5: By Asensio in the 75th minute. He seemed eager to play with Kroos and Benzema, but couldn’t get too involved.

Martin Ødegaard – 6.5: In minute 85 for Modric. He had a key pass to get Benzema’s second shot.

Mariano Díaz – N / A: Selected over Luka Jovic to replace Benzema in injury time.
