Ethiopia withdraws reservation on article 44 of the UNCAC –

Ethiopia has withdrawn its reservation on article 44 of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), according to the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

The country had a reservation on Article 44 of the UNCAC, which deals with the extradition of offenders, to countries that reviewed its implementation in Chapter Three (Criminalization and application of the law) and Chapter Four (International cooperation) of the Convention from 2010 to 2015.

After the review, one of the recommendations submitted by the reviewers was that the country withdraw its reservation to the aforementioned article of the Convention, according to the commission’s statement.

Thus, Ethiopia has withdrawn this reservation to Article 44 of the Convention and reiterates its conviction to faithfully comply and comply with all the stipulations contained therein.

The country has notified the matter to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) based in Vienna, Austria, it said.

It should be remembered that Ethiopia signed the United Nations Convention against Corruption on December 10, 2003 and ratified it on November 26, 2007, “with a reservation to Article 44 of the Convention.

According to article 9 (4) of the 1994 Ethiopian Constitution, which is the supreme law of the country, “International agreements ratified by Ethiopia are an integral part of the law of the country.”
