LG Display will demonstrate novel uses for its clear OLED displays at CES 2021 with applications for foodservice, transportation and smart home.

A clear, retractable TV that sits at the foot of the bed is just one of the ways LG Display will demonstrate its OLED technology during CES 2021. Ahead of the annual electronics show, which will be fully digital this year due to COVID- On September 19, LG Display announced that it would demonstrate novel uses for its clear OLED displays in the smart home, foodservice and transportation markets. During the fair, which will take place from January 11 to 14, the company will host an “online showroom” made up of multiple “zones” that illustrate how the company’s displays can be applied to “objects and situations that people find it daily. “
“Transparent OLED is a technology that maximizes the benefits of OLED and can be used in various places in our daily lives, from shops, shopping malls, and architectural interiors to autonomous vehicles, subways and airplanes,” said Jong-sun Park. LG Display’s transparent OLED screens are 40% transparent. According to the company, it is seeing growing demand for its transparent OLED technology in industries such as smart home, smart building, and transportation (including autonomous vehicles, airplanes, and subways).
55 Inch Retractable Transparent TV Smart Bed
LG Display’s “Smart Bed” concept is part of its Smart Home Zone and features a “frame” that hides a 55-inch retractable clear OLED screen. The mobile frame can be moved from room to room depending on the owner’s needs, but is primarily designed to be placed at the foot of a bed. When the television is in use, the screen is raised from inside the frame and the screen can be extended to various heights depending on the best screen ratio for the information being displayed. The frame also uses LG Display’s Cinematic Sound OLED (CSO) technology to generate an audio signal by vibrating the screen instead of using traditional speakers.
Order sushi on a transparent OLED screen
In the company’s restaurant area, LG Display will demonstrate how its transparent OLED technology can be used in the foodservice industry. For example, customers at a sushi bar can view menu information through a transparent screen that also serves as a partition between them and the chef. With their order placed, guests can watch TV or a movie on screen while also watching the chef prepare their food.

In the Metro Zone of the showroom, LG Display will demonstrate how a 55-inch transparent OLED screen could replace a traditional window on a subway train. During a trip, passengers can watch the scenery pass by outside while also getting important data from the trip, such as news, weather information or route location.
