(Pocket-lint) – OnePlus has already confirmed that it will be launching a watch, but there’s more: an affordable fitness tracker, believed to be called the OnePlus Band, is also in the works for 2021.
Although the watch is official … as confirmed on Twitter by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau – the OnePlus Band is not signed and sealed yet. However, Android Central has sources saying that the affordable fitness device will be the company’s first wearable launch.
Many may think of OnePlus as a phone company. But 2020 has already proven more than that: it launched OnePlus TV, as it was first shown in 2019, in the Indian market; while its co-founder, Carl Pei, left to be part of a company not yet disclosed.
But let’s get back to the OnePlus Band. With its primary goal of being affordable, a $ 40 (£ 30) price tag is suggested, it fits the new OnePlus model. 2020 also saw the arrival of OnePlus Nord, aiming to lower the price of the company’s phones, having spent the previous six years raising the selling price of its flagships.
OnePlus clearly wants to offer products that can be adapted to international markets, such as the subcontinent, with the aim of alienating potential buyers from companies like Xiaomi’s Mi Band. Can the OnePlus Band be successful? We suspect we will hear more in January or February, perhaps in line with the MWC Shanghai timeline.
