Dbrand, clearly the smallest fur maker on the market, made a big change on Christmas Day. In a Reddit post, she revealed a matte black faceplate for the PS5, obviously eager to face legal action from Sony. The faceplates won’t be ready until 2021, but the company is ready for a fight, if need be.
No skin in the game A month ago, Dbrand canceled and refunded orders for his PS5 skins in an even more scathing Reddit post. He forced fans not to order the skins because the application process would be too cumbersome for them.
“We have seen you idiots try to apply the corner of the skin of a smartphone. Trust us when we say you can’t handle an app that’s 9 times the size, ”the post says. “The truth here is that we have no interest in selling a product that will generate a dozen customer complaints for every purchase.”
The post also bemoans the dreaded white space in even the best skin app, citing it as an added reason for abandoning your plans to help you customize your PS5. Of course, you can always paint your console, but it is not the simplest or cleanest solution.
“Sue us, Sony” – CustomizeMyPlates.com walked around and smashed every bone in his body, only so Dbrand could fly too close to the sun. Undeterred by the failure of its predecessor, Dbrand intends to be the only PS5 skin supplier out there.
The easy-to-detach plates are supposedly intrinsic to Sony’s intellectual property rights for the console, but their patent applications are intentionally obtuse, which will likely limit leaks. Executive suggestions, rumors, and their outright takedown of CustomizeMyPlates suggest that the company may either monetize proprietary faceplates or release an all-black version of the PS5 in the near future.
Right of repair – Given the huge footprint of the PS5, Sony would like to have other options available to its design-conscious users. As removable parts, faceplates really fall within the territory of the right to repair. While some may say that a custom plate is not a repair, if a faceplate is damaged, its interchangeable nature should allow users to repair it without getting a brand new console, especially since many people don’t even own a PS5 yet.
