Apple released an app promoting potentially unsafe parties for COVID

In a frequently asked question, Vibe said that it only allowed “small gatherings” and not large parties, but even those would be illegal under the rules of the pandemic in many cities. This is because it only takes a single sick person, who may well show no symptoms, to cause a chain of infection that puts people beyond the party’s radius at risk.

The app appeared to have a relatively small presence on Instagram, TikTok, and the iOS store, despite much outrage it generated. Apple, by withdrawing the app, is suggesting that it follows government advice or has its own rules for apps that violate COVID rules (Engadget has reached out to Apple for more information).

Other promotional sites like the much larger Eventbrite continue to publish events such as New Years Eve party listings in San Francisco, New York City, and other locations, such as Business Insider famous. Meanwhile, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that you stay home through New Year’s Eve as the pandemic continues unabated and hospitals fill with critically ill patients.
