The Sudan Security and Defense Council on Tuesday reiterated its concern about the influx of Ethiopian refugees into eastern Sudan and instructed the relevant authorities to provide them with the necessary care in coordination with humanitarian organizations and the international community, said the Sovereign Council of Sudan in a statement.
The council, chaired by Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, held an emergency meeting at the presidential palace on Tuesday to discuss developments on the eastern border, according to the statement.
He added that the council praised the efforts made by the armed forces in the Al-Fashaga area of Sudan in defense of the territories and the border.
The joint border between the two countries has witnessed security tensions, after the Sudanese military announced on December 16 that Ethiopian forces and militias ambushed an army force in Sudanese territories.
The joint Sudan-Ethiopia border has also witnessed the influx of Ethiopian refugees fleeing the war into the Tigray region adjacent to Sudan.
