At least three people were killed during a shooting in the Chechen capital of Grozny on Monday, state news agencies reported.
The shooting began when anonymous armed militants attacked law enforcement officers on Putin Avenue in central Grozny, TASS and Interfax said, citing anonymous sources. Two law enforcement officers were killed and at least one of the attackers was shot dead, with reports saying that a second attacker was injured or killed.
The Mash Telegram channel posted a photo stating show the bodies on the street after the shooting.
Law enforcement officers are investigating the incident.
Grozny, which was devastated by massive shelling during Chechnya’s First and Second War in the 1990s, has largely rebuilt itself in recent years with significant investments in infrastructure. The region continues to grapple with the threat of terrorist attacks.
