WhatsApp will stop working for MILLIONS of users with older smartphones on New Years Day
- iOS9 and Android 4.0.3 will no longer be supported as of January 1, 2021
- iOS 9 was the last software update that the iPhone 4 could receive and it will cut
- Users with these devices will lose access to their chats and their content.
WhatsApp users who use the application on an iPhone 4 or earlier and outdated Android phones will not be able to use the application properly as of January 1, 2021.
The Facebook-owned messaging platform is no longer compatible with iOS 9, the operating software released by Apple in 2015.
Non-Apple users with an older device will also be affected if their device is still running Android 4.0.3.

Users worried about losing access to their WhatsApp should check their phone settings to see if they are running iOS 9 or Android 4.0.3.
For phones that cannot be updated to run latest software, the app will stop working properly from 2021.
These users will need to export their characters and save their messages or update their phone to avoid losing access to their chats and their content.
