Few songs better embody the spirit of the season than Mariah Carey’s 1994 smash hit, “All I want for Christmas is you.” Each year the song takes over the Billboard charts as countless fans around the world hear it loud and proud by the end of the year: amid the ups and downs of 2020, the familiar sound of bells and Carey’s delicate trill proved be more irresistible than ever, like your signature. The Christmas track beat Spotify’s single-day streaming record, TMZ reported.
Receiving more than 17,223,000 million views on December 24 alone, the song always progresses towards Christmas and already had several single-day streaming records: “All I Want for Christmas Is You” took first place in 2019, although it was temporarily usurped by Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” in January of that year. Earlier this month, it even ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
Other songs from Carey’s 94th season album, Merry Christmas, they have enjoyed continuing relevance, but nothing can touch “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, one of the three original songs released on that album. In fact, despite the album’s annual revival, “All I Want for Christmas” remains the top-selling Christmas song in America.
As Carey expressed on Twitter, it was a very happy vacation. When his timeless track took over streaming services again, various musicians launched their own seasonal efforts, including Kanye West and Playboi Carti’s Sunday Service Choir.
WOW ??? I know people think I’m making “coins” (little secret: artists do very little with broadcasts), but the real reason I’m sitting here in awe and gratitude is to see the joy that this little song I wrote bring the people. THANKS AND MERRY CHRISTMAS !!! ❤️? ❤️? ❤️‼ ️❄️❄️❄️‼ ️ https://t.co/jlhrtiN0h1
