Tesla is bringing holiday cheer to gaming enthusiasts on the go with its latest software bundle that reportedly includes three in-car video games, among other highlights. The electric vehicle maker has long promised games on its car’s main infotainment screen, a feature that is likely to become even more popular if fully autonomous cars go legal on the road.
US media reports, citing leaked Norwegian-language release notes, have highlighted that in-car games are part of the latest software update. The games are The Battle of Polytopia, Cat Quest, and Kabal. And while these games may not be the high-end, visually stunning, and graphics-processing games available on PCs and game consoles, it does signal the beginning of bigger and better things to come. The games will reportedly launch at the Tesla Arcade.

Adding games to its cars is one more way Tesla may want to distinguish itself from traditional automakers. Pushing the boundaries of creativity, CEO Elon Musk himself has stated that features like in-car gaming and video conferencing could be crucial in autonomous vehicles.
But not everyone is celebrating yet.
Concerns about the safety of autonomous vehicles have also raised concerns about how much distracting in-car games could be for the driver, even if he or she is not the one playing the game. And while Tesla maintains that its camera and sensor-laden cars will ensure safety is taken to a whole new level, it remains to be seen whether the cars will actually negate the need for any human intervention.
