Here are all the free ‘Xbox Games With Gold’ for January 2021

Microsoft has revealed the next batch of Xbox Games With Gold that will land in January 2021.

That’s a fun thing to write: 2021. 2020 has been such a ridiculously horrible year for almost everyone, it will be good to at least start a new year with a little hope.

Rebellions are based on hope.

Regardless, there are two Xbox One games, an Xbox 360 game, and an Xbox OG game (the former are backward compatible on Xbox One and will all be played on your Xbox Series X).

Here’s what’s on offer next month:

Xbox One

  • Little Nightmares ($ 19.99 ERP): Available January 1-31
  • Dead Rising ($ 19.99 ERP) – Available Jan 16 – Feb 15

Xbox 360

  • The King of Fighters XIII ($ 29.99 ERP) – Available January 1-15

Xbox

  • Breakdown ($ 9.99 ERP) – Available Jan 16-31

I hope Little nightmares a game that I somehow managed not to play after all these years despite the rave reviews and the creepy / cute vibe it gives off.

Here are the descriptions for each of these games, courtesy of Microsoft:

Little nightmares

Help your character, Six, survive The Maw: a huge and mysterious vessel inhabited by corrupt souls who seek to make you their next meal. Reconnect with your inner childhood and unleash your imagination to escape the inner horrors and find salvation.

Dead rising

In this remastered version of the original game, survive the meat-hungry undead mob at the Willamette Mall using a variety of weapons at your disposal. As a photojournalist Frank West, you will have 72 hours to fight the horde of zombies and discover the reason behind the outbreak.

The King of Fighters XIII

An upgraded version of the original arcade classic, use your Hyper Drive power meter to unleash devastating hits and combinations. Don’t miss this final chapter of “Ash Saga”, full of anger and betrayal, which ends here.

Decomposition

Trapped inside a mysterious laboratory and unable to remember his past, Derrick Cole must fight his way out using his new extraordinary powers. Combining close combat, state-of-the-art weapons, and an intense storyline, embark on a thrilling and suspenseful quest for the truth in this first-person action-adventure title.

What’s interesting about this lineup, of course, is that there are no Xbox Series X games at all. That is because simply. . . they’re not really any Xbox Series X game. But there isn’t even a cross-platform title on this list.

That’s in stark contrast to Sony. In December they are giving away Worms rumble a multiplatform PS4 / PS5 title. In November they distributed Bugsnax which, while not very good, is at least a PS5 game.

The question is, when will we see a real Xbox Series X game released as a giveaway for Xbox Games With Gold? But that question is based on a broader one: When will Microsoft start releasing next-gen content?

My hope is that they change course drastically in Infinite Halo and just launch that game on Xbox Series X | S and PC instead of wasting resources on the last generation and finding yourself in a Cyberpunk 2077 situation. I’d rather have an incredible, graphically spectacular aura than something like the game they showed in the reveal trailer, even if that means more delays.

See you in 2021, friends.
