Cyberpunk 2077 has been a mess of bugs, glitches, and poor performance on PC, Xbox Series X, PS5, Xbox One, and PS4. But developer CD Projekt Red is releasing patch 1.06 which should help in some way to prevent game crashes and make the game a bit more stable.
CD Projekt Red noted that the patch will offer “better memory management and stability, resulting in fewer crashes” on game consoles. The patch also removes the Cyberpunk 2077 storage file size limit of 8MB on PC. And in the game’s missions, the developer noted that Dum “Dum will no longer disappear from the Totentanz entrance during the Second Conflict.”
This hotfix won’t be the panacea for all Cyberpunk 2077 problems. You’ll have to wait until 2021 for that, as CD Projekt Red has promised to release “two big patches” in January and February to address performance issues on the PS4 and Xbox. One, with next-gen updates for the PS5 and Xbox Series X also next year.
In essence, this hotfix patch is basically a band-aid for some of CyberPunk 2077’s most egregious bugs. Unfortunately for PC gamers, the hotfix will not allow them to rescue corrupted save game files prior to the update.
Cyberpunk 2077 was warmly regarded as one of the biggest games of 2020, and arguably it was, only it turned out to be a huge disappointment. My colleague Henry T. Casey put the game through its paces for his Cyberpunk 2077 review, and he was deeply disappointed by the bugs and crashes the game threw up on his Xbox One X.
And he was not alone, as many other Cyberpunk 2077 players complained about bugs and poor performance, all of which culminated in CD Projekt Red offering refunds and Sony pulling the game from its PlayStation Store.
In fairness to CD Project Red, it appears the game’s creator is working hard to fix the game, although arguably it shouldn’t have been released in that state to begin with. However, we recommend that you wait a few months for more fixes and patches to be applied before going out and buying Cyberpunk 2077.
