A popular Fortnite streamer accuses the game of adding pay-to-win skins that can be used to disguise themselves in plain sight to fool opponents.
A popular streamer has accused Fortnite of adding pay skins to win in the game, and there is a grain of truth in such assumptions. Also, one of these skins is actually part of the recent Operation Snowdown event, which was released in the game a few days ago.
Operation Snowdown added a handful of new holiday cosmetics that can be claimed for free by completing challenges. The most exciting part is the addition of two new character skins: the Snowmando outfit and the Frost Squad outfit. They are both wintry and delicious. On top of that, players can expect to unlock new cosmetics for pickaxes, rear blings, gliders, and more.
According to SypherPK on YouTube, there are three special skins on Fortnite which can be seen as pay-to-win cosmetics considering the advantages they provide to players. The first costume to appear in the video is called Lieutenant Evergreen, and it’s basically a Christmas tree outfit. The streamer used the Light Up emote to sneakily position his Christmas-themed character as he hid under a festive fir tree and waited for an unconscious opponent to fall into the trap before killing the unconscious player. After a successful takedown, SypherPK proceeded to hide in plain sight next to a bush, and it surprisingly worked a few times, resulting in a Victory Royale. The other two skins displayed by the streamer, Nutcracker and Snowmando, are less powerful, but nonetheless allow camouflaging in certain areas of Battle Island. For example, the suit above can be used to hide in Lazy Lake, where two destructible Nutcracker statues are found. Using the Mystique skin, SypherPK also transformed into Snowmando, disguising himself as an NPC to fool unsuspecting players.
Fortnite it’s all about new skins and cosmetics, and there are many more on the way to the game. Although the recent massive collaboration with Marvel has ended, there are new superhero costumes in the form of Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Taskmaster. According to the most recent leak, the characters will be accompanied by specifically designed spikes and rear blings. In addition to the required accessories, Black Panther and Captain Marvel will also receive additional skin variants that will shine with power.
The three highlights Fortnite Character skins give a slight edge when trying to hide, but strictly speaking they don’t look much like pay-to-win cosmetics. Much depends on the players’ situational awareness, as the streamer himself demonstrates. As various players fell for their traps, experienced players immediately recognized a camouflaged Bushman and a saluting Nutcracker. It definitely doesn’t sound as overpowered as the streamer is trying to deliver and besides, everyone knows these tricks thanks to SypherPK.
Fortnite is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices.
