The saved data could be corrupted by too many items

Another day, another problem. Apparently having too many items in your inventory in Cyberpunk 2077 can cause save files to get damaged or corrupted.

Cyberpunk 2077 is riddled with glitches and bugs that ruin the overall gaming experience. Now imagine being able to overcome all of that only to have your save data corrupted simply from having too many items. This is apparently a problem that CD Projekt Red has recognized.

There is a post on the GOG.com support page that says “Saved data is corrupted and cannot be loaded.”

Unfortunately, if you run into this error, there is no solution. The save is corrupted and cannot be recovered.

CDPR’s recommendation is to use an older save file to continue playing. But what you’ll really like is the potential cause of corrupted save data – too many items.

In conjunction with CD Projekt Red’s solution to using an older save file, it is recommended to “try to keep fewer crafting items and materials.” Apparently having too many items can cause the saved file size to bloat and eventually become corrupted after reaching a certain size. I’m not sure what that size is, but man, just when you think it can’t get any worse, this happens.

CD Projekt Red says that the save file size limit “might increase in one of the future patches” but unfortunately it will not fix the already corrupted save file. Any corrupted files that exist will remain corrupted and cannot be played.

Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the most anticipated games of this year and, like everything else in 2020, it has been a complete disappointment. The game works horribly on the latest generation consoles (Xbox One and PlayStation 4) and only slightly better on Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5 (and even PC). Even if you can play without crashing, it’s full of NPC bugs, gameplay glitches, and other immersive-breaking issues.

Sony, Microsoft, and most traditional retailers offer refunds to those who are not satisfied with their purchase; however, CD Projekt Red has also promised to continue working on the game until it runs successfully.
