The planned 10th post-TPLF conference on Ethiopia appears to have divided Vision Ethiopia’s leadership

There seems to be an apparent difference between the leaders of Vision Ethiopia, a nonprofit organization incorporated in Washington, which was established about five years ago.
On December 18, borkena received event information from Vision Ethiopia (a vision Ethiopia email account) with a request to publish it. It was a planned 10th conference entitled “Post-TPLF Ethiopia: The Way Forward” and was posted under the Events category.
As a result, there appears to be a divide within Vision Ethiopia regarding the event. On Monday of this week, borkena received an email from Dr. Ashenafi Gossaye, who was among the initial directors of Vision Ethiopia. The email that was copied to several other Ethiopian editors read: “I am writing to inform you that the so-called 10th Vision Ethiopia Conference has not been initiated or approved by the Vision Ethiopia Board of Directors …”
Another email we received on the afternoon of December 21, signed by the chairman, Dr. Getachew Begashaw, said that “certain members of the board have taken diametrically opposed political positions and are willing to fully compromise the independence and nonprofits. partisan organizations “.
Among the positions said to be political, according to the email signed by the president, are: 1) Denial of widely reported and still ongoing genocidal violence against Amharas, Orthodox Christians and other minority groups in Oromia, Metekel and other regions 2) Refusing to report the criminal actions of the TPLF or supporting the ongoing campaign of the Ethiopian Government to enforce law and order in the Tigray region. In addition, he affirmed that a new board of directors is being reconstituted.
The statement by Dr. Ashenafi and four other Vision Ethiopia board members states that the planned conference violates Vision Ethiopia’s bylaws.
