My Epic, in corporate terms and in descriptive terms, the order book continues to grow. Since it started, the Epic Games Store has defined itself by a river of constant free games, big and small, to the point where you could probably get more than you could play just by logging in once a week and watching. Okay. Here for the holidays, the company is upping the ante with 15 free games, one day, which began on December 17.
We’ve had some solids so far, starting with Cities: Skylines and going to Oddworld: New n ‘Tasty, The Long Dark, Defense Grid 1 and, at the time of writing, Alien: Isolation. And so far those games are consistent with a leaked list from a few days ago, which now seems accurate enough to say that it will correctly predict the rest of the games. We’ll see:
There are some good things in there, including some that have been free before. Maybe I’m more excited for My time in Portia, because I haven’t played it yet and I’ve never lifted my dandruff to try it: doing something for free has a way of getting up, said dandruff. Other games like Metro 2033, Tropico 5, Night in the woods, inside and Darkest dungeon they are excellent too. Keep in mind that these are all free for 24 hours only, so be sure to log in every day if you want to get a ton of games that you could one day play.
We’re covering a lot of territory with these in an interesting way – from city builders to side scrolling, a farming game, and a shooter. Today’s is one of the most interesting on the list, in fact: Alien: Isolation it was about twice as long as necessary, but it provided one of the most unique shots of the adaptations on this side of John Wick: Hex. He tried to simulate the feeling of the first Alien movie, the idea that you were besieged by an invincible and unstoppable creature, and that your only option was to hide. It’s atmospheric, scary, and worth more than a couple of hours. Like I said, it lasts too long, but that’s less of a concern when you don’t have to pay for it.
