The Airbus A330neo aircraft, Uganda’s first new Airbus, will fly from the manufacturer’s base in Toulouse to Entebbe International Airport in France, according to a report by New Vision.
A330neo of Uganda Airline, the Ugandan national airline allegedly take the fly on monday.
The flight will reportedly be carried out by Ugandan pilots who received training at Airbus headquarters, said Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works since the government paid full payment for her first plane.
Uganda Airline chief pilot Michael Etiang will lead the flight crew, including crew members training in Toulouse, according to the report. Upon the arrival of the Airbus, the plane will be received by Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda, amid a colorful ceremony, the report said.
Katumba reportedly applauded Airbus for its cooperation in training and technical elements of the aircraft during a conference at the Crowne Plaza hotel, Toulouse, France. And he added, “yes, the plane will be piloted by Ugandan pilots, something we should be proud of because it shows the capacity that the country has at the moment.”
He said that many of the experienced pilots from Uganda have been employed by other companies in different parts who are now mobilized to return home. “Many of them (pilots) have dispersed around the world doing work with other airlines, but they have come home and Ugandans should be proud of them,” he said.
He added that the Airbus craft will give Uganda Airlines “an operational advantage of being able to fly directly to the world’s largest cities.” “While Bombardiers can fly to the region, Airbus jets will fly long-range routes,” Katumba said.
