Sadio Mane lived up to his heartfelt promise to a Liverpool fan when he pointed to the sky during the Reds’ emphatic 7-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Mane scored a goal and an assist before being replaced by Mohamed Salah in the 57th minute at Selhurst Park.

Although the Senegalese was visibly unhappy at having been withdrawn from the action, when he left the field he recalled a celebration he had promised to hold.

Mane kissed his finger and pointed to the sky, just as Liverpool fan and food bank volunteer Lee Swan had shown him on a video call in late November.

Mane asked Lee for inspiration for her next celebration

Lee kissed her finger and pointed to the sky in response.

The 28-year-old has often copied his teammates’ celebrations and this time allowed Lee to choose the next one.

In a video call, Mane said, “You know me, I like to copy celebrations. If you have any celebrations, show me now.”

In response, Lee kissed her finger and pointed to the sky and said, “For my grandfather.”

Mane, who practiced the celebration in video on Liverpool’s official website, performed it to perfection on a triumphant Saturday afternoon for the Reds.

Lee volunteers to help the Florence Institute Community Center deliver 1,000 hot meals and 350 specialty food baskets in the lead up to Christmas.

He was taken on an Anfield tour with his colleague Timo and scored a goal against Kop, to which Mane joked: “You shoot much better than Robbo. [Andy Robertson]. Much, much better than Robbo. “

Mane closed the call with his and Lee’s celebration and said, “I’m proud to be a part of Dear Liverpool FC and be a part of making a difference during these challenging times. And it’s an honor to help recognize the work that Lee, Timo and Florrie have been doing.

“Giving Lee the tour was the highlight of the running. He’s a real character and it was a pleasure helping him realize his dream of scoring at Anfield.”
