Stating that India’s preemptive movements in the Kailash Mountain Range in Ladakh have partially neutralized China’s advantage in that sector, Lieutenant General HS Panag, former GOC-in-C North and Central Commandos, emphasized that India must not do no compromise because even stagnation in this situation would be a defeat for China.

Speaking at a session on Saber Rattling in Ladakh during the Military Literature Festival here today, he said that although the overall advantage was still with China, if India could advance troops in areas such as the Indus Valley sector and the southern sector, the advantage China could be completely neutralized.

Lt. Gen. Raj Shukla, GOC-en-C, Army Training Command, said: “Tactically, our response to Chinese aggression has been quite good, but we need to synergize them in the broader strategic framework. We need to act against LAC’s strategic restriction to the Indian Ocean region to ensure a successful deterrence towards China ”.

Lt. Gen. DS Hooda, former GOC-in-C, Northern Command, said it was clear from the level of preparedness that this incident was different from previous raids and that the level of violence seen was unprecedented. “We were also surprised to learn why the PLA was doing it at this time when the entire world was affected by the pandemic and there was also no severing of ties between China and India and no major trigger,” he said.
