Qualifying points will be offered for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as Madagascar hosts the African Judo Championships.

The Championship is scheduled to start tomorrow and last until Sunday (December 20).

The competition will take place in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar.

The African Judo Union (AJU) awarded Madagascar the event last month, and the organization seeks to offer athletes the opportunity to earn qualification points for Tokyo 2020.

The winners of each weight division will earn 700 points.

The African Championships will only feature senior events.

The AJU canceled the cadet, junior and kata events due to the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Organizers said no effort has been spared to ensure the safety of the delegations, with 33 countries expected to participate.

The event has been organized under the COVID-19 protocols described by the International Judo Federation.
