Tom Cruise slammed Mission: Impossible 7 crew members in an expletive-laden spiel (a British tabloid obtained the audio of Cruise’s outburst) for violating COVID-19 security protocols and in turn putting in danger the production of the film. Cruise said he would “fire” people for repeat offenses, and reminded them of their responsibility, of how movies like Mission: Impossible 7 are creating “thousands of jobs” while others are “losing their homes” because most of Hollywood still closed downstairs.
“We are the gold standard,” Cruise says in the audio that The Sun obtained. “They are there in Hollywood making movies right now thanks to us. Because they believe in us and in what we do. I’m on the phone with all the damn studios at night, the insurance companies, the producers, and they’re watching us and using us to make their movies. We are creating thousands of jobs, motherfuckers. I never want to see him again. Never!”
By “seeing him again,” Cruise was referring to two crew members who were less than a meter apart, according to The Sun. Six feet, or about two meters, is the recommended distance for social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in outdoor settings.
“And if you do, you’re fired, and I see you do it again, you’re gone. And if anyone on this crew does it, that’s it, “Cruise added, before specifically pointing to the crew members,” and so do you, and so do you. And you, never do it again. That’s! No apologies.
“You can tell people that they are losing their damn homes because our industry is closed. You will not put food on your table or pay for your college education. That’s what I sleep on every night – the future of this damn industry! So sorry, I’m beyond your apologies. I’ve told you, and now I want it, and if you don’t, you’re out. We’re not closing this damn movie!
“It is understood? If I see him again, you’re gone. And you too. Then you’re going to cost him his job. If I see it on set, you go and you go. That’s. I am clear? Do you understand what I want? Do you understand the responsibility you have? Because I’ll take care of your reason, and if you can’t be reasonable and I can’t deal with your logic, you’re fired. That’s. That’s. I trust that you will be here. “
Mission: Impossible 7 was originally scheduled to begin filming in Italy in February, just as COVID-19 swept through Europe. Production resumed in September in England, before moving to Norway and then Italy in October. In late October, filming stopped after 12 people tested positive for COVID-19, but resumed a week later in England.
Mission: Impossible 7, still untitled, will be released on November 19, 2021 in theaters around the world.
