Google says a ‘significant’ number of Gmail users are seeing errors right now

Google says that a “significant subset” of Gmail users are making mistakes with the service right now.

While users can access their inboxes, they may encounter “error messages, high latency, and / or other unexpected behavior,” the company wrote in a message on its service status page. The errors come just one day after many Google properties, including Gmail, YouTube, and Google Docs, suffered a widespread outage.

Downdetector, which monitors website problem reports, shows an increase in issues affecting Gmail as of 3pm ET. Users have reported that they cannot access their inboxes, while others have said that they receive bounce messages when they try to email someone with a Gmail address.

Google said it plans to provide an update before 5:30 p.m. ET on when it expects the issues to be resolved.

Stadia, Google’s game streaming service, was also having issues this afternoon, but it’s unclear if they were related. The company said one problem was “banning some users from launching games.”

Google now says The edge that the problem with Stadia has been resolved and that “users should be able to play as usual.”
