The OnePlus 9 series will launch earlier than expected next year, and so far, we’ve had a couple of decent looks on what to expect. Now images of a pre-production OnePlus 9 have hit the web, showing off the design, cameras, and even confirming some key specs like the use of the Snapdragon 888.

The people of PhoneArena These photos of the OnePlus 9 were sent showing the phone from all angles, including some screenshots from the Inware app that confirm the device’s specifications.

Starting with the specs, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is confirmed in the app with its codename “Lahaina” listed as used by the OnePlus 9. This is no surprise, but given the impressive performance gains this chipset brings, it is great to see. Along with that chip, this OnePlus 9 pre-production unit is configured with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which implies that this is the base model of the line. Android 11 is integrated as well, unlike some of the company’s recent releases.

Beyond the specs and software, this leak confirms a few other key details about the hardware. The design carries over to the curved glass rear that we have seen in previous versions, such as the OnePlus 8T, as well as adopting a rectangular camera module like the OnePlus 8T used. However, in particular, the OnePlus 9 has two very large camera cutouts (which probably look like the ones on the iPhone on purpose), as well as a color module in addition to the cameras themselves.

The front screen is flat with a hole mounted on the left for the selfie camera. Apparently that screen is a 2400 × 1080 FHD + OLED panel that sits below a completely flat screen. Of course, it supports HDR and 120Hz.

Hardware-wise, the OnePlus 9 has a USB-C port at the bottom along with a SIM tray, speaker, and microphone. Apparently that SIM tray also has a rubber seal for water resistance even though the phone lacks an official IP rating. Along the sides of the metal frame, the classic OnePlus design for the volume rocker on the left and the power button / alert slider on the right.
