Addisababa – The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO), launched a mobile app on Tuesday that provides vital information to Ethiopian migrants seeking work in the Middle East.

The app named “Yeguzo Sinq” provides vital information to job seekers in Middle Eastern countries in English, Amharic, Oromiffa and Tigrinya languages.

The app is expected to alleviate the challenges Ethiopian migrants have faced due to a lack of sufficient information about their new job, their rights and responsibilities, as well as the country’s general work environment.

The application provides information that includes salary amounts, emergency centers, foreign labor laws, information related to health and existing job opportunities in the countries.

The Minister of State of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Ayelech Eshete, said during the application launching ceremony, Ethiopian labor migrants should have sufficient information before traveling.

In this sense, he added that the application will play a key role as it provides the necessary information about jobs and host countries, among other things.

The ILO representative, Ayda Awol, said for her part that the applications have a list of legal agencies and contribute a lot so that Ethiopians who travel to the countries of the Middle East are not also exposed to illegal traffickers.

Some 16,000 Ethiopians have legally traveled to Arab countries in the past year alone, so look for work, it was said.
