Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed will begin a two-day visit to neighboring Kenya on Wednesday, his first overseas trip since announcing the end of a military operation in the northern region of Tigray.
You will be greeted by your host president, Uhuru Kenyatta, in Moyale, a border town in northeastern Kenya.
The two leaders must inaugurate and inspect infrastructure projects.
These include the Moyale One Stop Border Post (OSBP) and the new Lamu Port, an anchor project of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (Lapsset) corridor.
The two countries enjoy warm relations and their leaders have met several times before, but this meeting occurs at a significant time.
An internal conflict between the federal government of Ethiopia and the renegade administration of the state of Tigray has dominated the news headlines around the world since early November.
Hundreds have died and thousands have been displaced while fleeing the fighting in Tigray.
Meanwhile, clashes between communities residing in the common border area with Kenya are not unusual.
A few weeks ago, the Ethiopian military participated in the fighting along this border. At least 10 Kenyans were arrested and taken to Ethiopia while soldiers were fighting the OLF Shane group in western Ethiopia.
The perennial conflicts in the area will be among the key talking points for the two leaders at their meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.
