Fortnite Christmas is coming, what we know about Winterfest 2020

It’s that time of year again, the time when we parachute into a snow-covered wonderland and hunt down our fellow revelers in the particular mix of festivity and violence that only a video game vacation can provide. Winterfest, also known as Christmas, comes to Fortniteprobably very soon.

It’s a bit difficult to predict these things because Fortnite It hasn’t really been around that long, and it has changed its event formats quite dramatically every year. One thing has remained constant: it revolves around 14 days of Fortnite, which is a mix of challenges and rewards, one a day, for 14 days, between Christmas and New Years. That means we probably won’t see it until the second half of the month, which will come faster than expected.

Here’s the only information I’ve seen from leaks that is terribly unconfirmed, but still intriguing:

Last year, we got a “Winterfest Cabin” full of gifts that we open one every day, and I’d love to see a return of that – it also included the only real free skins the game had ever seen at the time. – No subscriptions, outside purchases, memberships or anything, just a real free skin.

It wouldn’t be impossible to see these Christmas skins appear on the map as NPCs either, now that NPCs are just a regular part of the game. I imagine we’ll definitely get some of those, along with the regular Christmas sort of things in the game: the sneaky snowman, for example, or some challenges that revolve around throwing the snowball toy. I’d also be surprised if the map didn’t end up covered in snow and sprinkled with Christmas decorations at some point, perhaps with a challenge that involves dancing in front of the trees, as we often see. Probably something to do with the fireworks for New Years.

I hope the event starts sometime a little closer to Christmas – in the past it started on December 20 and 18, so stay tuned. Our next patch will likely contain a much larger amount of new information, so we’ll see what’s in there and if we can find out what Epic has planned this year.
