World of Warcraft Shadowlands is the best-selling PC game of all time, according to Activision.
World of Warcraft’s eighth expansion sold more than 3.7 million units worldwide on its first full day of release.
Shadowlands was originally scheduled for release on October 27, 2020, but was delayed until November 23, the 16th anniversary of the original groundbreaking MMO’s release.
The previous record holder was another Blizzard game: Diablo 3, which sold more than 3.5 million copies since its first day of release.
Clearly, Shadowlands is a hit. Activision said that in the months leading up to the expansion’s launch and the time since launch, World of Warcraft reached and has maintained its highest number of players with monthly or longer-term subscriptions compared to the same period before and after. any WoW expansion in the last decade, both in the West and the East.
Bottom line: Players have spent more time in Azeroth to date than in the same period in any of the last 10 years. Players’ total time in the game this year to date has almost doubled compared to the same period last year.
