Boxscore, DETROIT (December 7, 2020) It’s boxing’s latest vaudeville act, Sunday saw Floyd Mayweather Jr. and social media star Logan Paul announce that the two will meet in the ring on February 20, 2021 for an exhibition fight.
On the surface, the fight appears to be a one-sided and potentially dangerous affair as Mayweather, a perfect 50-0 with 27 KOs, will fight Paul, who is 0-1 in his career professionally alongside a couple of amateurs. / vaudeville. exhibitions to his credit. The best fight for the YouTube personality may be the challenge Paul passed up, a fight with NHL player Evander Kane.
The NHL has changed considerably due to the covid-19 pandemic, the new focus on controlling violence, fighting, and social media.
In the 1970s and 1980s, fans would go to games to watch aggressive hockey as well as score and create plays.
Dave “Hammer” Schultz, Bryan ‘Bugsy’ Watson, Danny Maloney, Bob Kelly, Tiger Williams, and Terry O’Reilly were just a few of the players that fans actually paid to see their gloves removed.
The new NHL now does not have the agents that once patrolled the ice and helped keep the other team honest and more reluctant to mistreat their star players.
Still, it was a surprise to hear the announcement of an office fight between Evander Kane and social media personality Logan Paul.
Paul previously competed in a boxing match with former NBA player Nate Robinson and abused him to the chagrin of various NBA players and analysts.
Logan continuously attacked the former 5’9 guard in the first round and delivered eight hits to the head that resulted in falls. Logan knocked him out in the second round of the match.
Logan has trained extensively and used his social media platform to promote his challenges to men considered tough guys in their sport.
San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane recently came into the spotlight by blatantly announcing on social media that he could easily handle Logan and do quick work with him. Kane has earned a reputation for being a capable fighter by beating most of his opponents and knocking out Pittsburgh Penguin Matt Cooke in 2010 when he was 19 years old.
Kane is a throwback to the tough NHL forwards of the 1950s and ’60s who possessed considerable offensive skills but could also take care of themselves physically.
The last time an NHL player hosted a game with a wrestler was when Boston Bruins Eddie Shore challenged Braves baseball player Art Shire and were trying to schedule a game with Max Baer. The NHL rejected the games, saying it could cause injuries that would put Shore, one of the NHL’s biggest draws, out of commission.
Kane said in a tweet that August 31, 2021 would be a good date for a game in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A contest between Kane and Logan may have been a competitive contest.
