In September, Apple said it would stop shipping a power brick with the Apple Watch. The following month, the company followed up with the removal of the wall charger from the iPhone 12 range.
While consumers around the world weren’t happy with the decision, there was nothing they could do. However, a decision by the consumer protection agency in Brazil will force the company to ship iPhones with the included wall charger.
Procon-SP, the Sao Paulo state consumer interest agency, asked Apple to provide a justification for not including the power block in iPhones in October. Apple justified the decision by citing environmental reasons and sayingmany consumers already have a compatible charger.
However, the agency was not satisfied with the responses from the iPhone maker, saying that the power brick was an essential part of the iPhone package. Apple has to respond to the decision immediately to avoid a fine.
As pointed out by 9to5Mac, in addition to the authorities of the state of Sao Paulo, the The National Consumer Secretary is also considering asking Apple to ship wall chargers with iPhones nationwide.
This isn’t the first legal challenge Apple has had to remove items from the iPhone case. Due to a French law that requires mobile phone manufacturers to ship their devices with hands-free solutions, the company had to include headsets with the iPhone in the country, something it has stopped doing in other markets around the world.
